Who made the most 3 pointers in a game

Steph Curry gave Cavaliers fans flashbacks during the 2022 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday night at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland.

The Warriors star made NBA All-Star history on the final day of the three-day event for most 3-pointers made in an All-Star game.

The sharpshooter wasted no time, scoring the first triple of the game within 47 seconds of the contest.

Steph really started to heat up In the second quarter, nailing a trio of 3-pointers in less than a minute.

He also set the All-Star Game record with eight threes in a half, breaking the previously shared record held by Russell Westbrook and Kawhi Leonard.

Steph is donating ,000 for every triple he makes to the Cleveland Metro School District.

Curry finished with 50 points on 17-of-30 shooting and 16-of-27 from distance.

INDIANAPOLIS -- As Golden State Warriors star guard Stephen Curry sits on the precipice of breaking Ray Allen's career 3-point record, he does so with only one regret over how the last week has played out in the buildup to the milestone.

Curry said that while he would have still had the belief he could hit 16 3-pointers and break the record at home, having the whole world talk about him making 16 "sparked a little extra -- I won't call it tension, just anxiousness about the whole night."

Both Curry and Warriors coach Steve Kerr said after last Monday's win over the Orlando Magic that it was possible Curry could make 16 3-pointers in one game to break Allen's record. The current record for most made 3-pointers in a single game is 14 and is held by Curry's teammate Klay Thompson.

"And those shots I took, those first four [against Portland] I missed all four, I would shoot those whether it was Game 1, Game 82, the playoffs," Curry said. "That's how you approach the game. It just had a different context to it. It feels a little bit different now knowing we're right there. It will happen when it happens and I'll enjoy it when it does."

It's a sentiment that Kerr shares on several levels -- reiterating Monday that he wished he didn't feed into the "narrative" that such a record breaking performance was possible.

"There hasn't been stress for our team," Kerr said of Curry's record chase. "I would say it's been a slight distraction. And I told the media in Philadelphia the other night, I fed into it because somebody asked me if Steph could break it at home against Portland with 16 3s and I said, 'Sure,' because nothing Steph does surprises me. But that fed into the narrative -- he came out and took 17 3s that night, our crowd was going crazy from the very beginning. And I'm shaking my head thinking, what the hell did I just do?

"I think the most important thing is we just have to settle in and it's going to happen obviously pretty soon. We just have to get into a rhythm. We haven't been great offensively over the last five or six games ... it's more likely that he'll make more 3s if our team's in a good rhythm and we're just playing."

Curry now needs seven 3s to surpass Allen's record heading into Monday night's game against the Indiana Pacers.

Curry has been open about how much the record means to him, but acknowledged after Monday's shootaround that there was a little "tension" as the milestone gets closer.

"I realize how much work's gone into it, but there is a lot of tension and emotion," Curry said. "Even from the last home game, the schedule's kind of provided a little extra emphasis, seeing if I could do it before we came on this road trip. But after that when I get on the floor I'm just playing basketball having a good time, trying to win games in the process. Obviously, I'd like to shoot the ball better, play better. I know that's going to happen and the record will come as a part of that, but just enjoying the process."

Curry, who has been a longtime fan of Hall of Famer and former Pacer Reggie Miller, said that while he learned "a lot" from watching Miller's game and the "creativity" he used on the floor, he's just looking forward to breaking the record wherever it happens.

"There's a narrative for pretty much everywhere on this road trip that you could kind of key in on," Curry said. "Reggie's presence and legacy here. Playing against my brother in Philly, in the Garden [Tuesday]. The court that Ray Allen broke Reggie's record in Boston. Again, it will happen when it happens."

Curry acknowledged that there was some chatter about whether or not he would play on both ends of Monday's and Tuesday's back-to-back against the Pacers and New York Knicks. He said there was "nothing unusual about those type of conversations" and they weren't related to where he may break the record. With another upcoming back-to-back Friday and Saturday against the Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors coming up, Curry demurred when asked if the plan was for him to still play on every game of this road trip.

"I'm playing tonight," Curry said. "And then I look forward to playing the next time they tell me to play."

Who holds the record for the most 3-pointers in a game in NBA history?

Remember, before Stephen Curry made the three-point shot part of the lexicon, some of the greatest NBA players never really relied on shooting from beyond the arc.

Michael Jordan hit 581 3-point shots throughout his legendary 15-year career. His single-season high was matched two times with a mere 111 successful 3-pointers.

During his career, Larry Bird was considered the best long-range shooter in the NBA. What was his single-season high? Ninety. Yeah, 90!

Below, we look at the record for the most 3-pointers in an NBA game. The focus is on five different players from the modern era, including Mr. Curry himself.

Klay Thompson shatters record for most 3-pointers in a game

It was back on October 29 of 2018 that Klay Thompson lit the Windy City on fire. Taking on the Bulls, this Golden State Warriors star nailed 10 3-pointers in the first half alone. It’s a game that saw Golden State lead by the score of 92-50 at the half.

It’s astonishing. Thompson didn’t have much of a chance to add to his total in the second half with Golden State up by a ton. With that said, he was able to hit four more in the second half to best teammate Klay Thompson for the most 3’s in a game.

All said, Thompson connected on 18-of-29 from the field. That included a 14-of-24 mark from distance en route to scoring 52 points. Amazingly, this is not the signature moment of the three-time NBA champion’s career.

Two years before Thompson broke the record for the most 3-pointers in a game, the most-lethal 3-point shooter in NBA history topped the charts. It’s no surprise given that Curry now boasts the record for the current NBA 3-point record in his career.

This specific game came against the New Orleans Pelicans on November 7, 2016. It also came in Oakland’s Oracle Arena, sending Warriors fans into a frenzy.

Curry would hit on 13-of-17 from 3-point range en route to scoring 46 points. That 77% mark from distance is just insane. The rest of Golden State’s roster, Thompson and Kevin Durant included, were a combined 3-of-18 from distance. Golden State needed it all in a 10-point win against Anthony Davis and the Pels.

When LaVine entered the NBA as a first-round pick of the Minnesota Timberwolves back in 2014, most saw him as a mere athlete. The former Slam Dunk Contest winner was never going to morph into an elite-level player.

That changed when the UCLA product was dealt from Minnesota to Chicago in the now-infamous Jimmy Butler trade ahead of the 2017-18 season.

In his third full season with Chicago, LaVine averaged a career-best 25.5 points per game. He also shot 38% from 3-point range. One particular moment comes to mind in LaVine’s ascension to superstardom.

Taking on the Charlotte Hornets back in November of 2019, LaVine tied Curry for the second-most 3-pointers in a game. He nailed on 13-of-17 from distance, scoring 49 points in the process. What’s crazy here is the fact that LaVine played less than 35 minutes.

GOAT Kobe Bryant breaks NBA record for most 3-pointers in a game

The Black Mamba was a living bucket during his all-time geat career. The then-Seattle Sonics found that it out back on January 7, 2003, in Los Angeles.

Not necessarily known for his 3-point shot during that stage in his career, the late-great Bryant absolutely torched Gary Payton and Co. by hitting on 12-of-18 from 3-point range. That broke the previous record for the most 3-pointers in a game — held by Dennis Scott.

Three years later, and Bryant would score 81 points in a game against the Toronto Raptors — bringing up memories of the great Wilt Chamberlain in the process. Interestingly enough, he hit only seven 3-pointers in that game.

Despite his status as an all-time great, Bryant’s single-season high for 3-pointers was 180 back in 2005-06. That’s tied for 208th overall in league history.

The randomness of Donyell Marshall

It’s not that Marshall wasn’t a big name coming out of Connecticut back in 1994. He was the No. 4 overall pick of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Unfortunately, he didn’t have the career of those selected immediately ahead of him (Glenn Robinson, Jason Kidd and Grant Hill).

But for at least one game, Marshall stood above the rest. As a member of the Toronto Raptors during the 2005-06 season, Marshall nailed 12-of-19 3-pointers against the Philadelphia 76ers.

The crazy thing here is that it came off the bench for a team that included Chris Bosh and Jalen Rose. It also came against a 76ers squd that featured Allen Iverson and Andre Iguodala.

For his career, Marshall connected on 902 3-point attempts. That’s good for 168th in league history — sandwiched in between Rasual Butler and Jared Dudley. Yeah, we have to love the randomness of Donyell Marshall.

Most 3-pointers in a game (All-Star Game)

Stephen Curry holds the mark for the most career NBA 3-pointers. He also hold the mark for the most 3-pointers in a season and boasts four of the five seasons with the most in league history. So, why not have this extend to the All-Star Game.

It was back in February that Curry awed onlookers in Cleveland by nailing the most 3-pointers in a game. After Cavaliers fans had booed him during pre-game introductions, Curry went nuclear.

We’re not kidding. The dude hit 16-of-27 from distance. He was nailing them from Akron. Almost literally. It was a sight to behold. And while it’s not an official NBA 3-point record, it was stunning to watch.

Most 3-pointers in a game

NBA players have nailed double-digit three-pointers a total of 74 times. Of the 29 players who have hit 11 or more from distance, Curry has done it 12 times.

This just goes to show us how much he’s transformed the game. With the likes of youngsters Trae Young and Anthony Edwards doing their thing from distance, his records will fall at some point.

Most 3-pointers in an NBA Finals game

Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors boast the record with nine three-pointers in an NBA Finals game. It took place in Game 2 of the 2018 NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Curry scored 33 points in th game, eventually leading the Warriors to a four-game series sweep.
