This page lists accredited vocational education and training (VET) courses that have been developed by the department.

The courses have been developed to support Victorian industry and community needs where there are no existing packages or endorsed units available.

Usage

The following Victorian Crown Copyright accredited courses are owned by the department and available to download for free.

Section A of the documentation includes information on permissions for use. Section B provides course information, including content and course rules.

Registered training organisations will need to apply to their VET regulator (ASQA, the VRQA or WATAC) to request addition of any of these courses to their scope of registration.

    Course purpose

    The 22497VIC Course in Concrete Precast Rectification provides an accredited training program and vocational outcomes for a person to be employed as a concrete precast rectifier/patcher and repairer.

    The course does not align with any specific AQF level, but rather complements existing competencies gained by workers in the building and construction industry. Therefore, it is appropriately designated as a ‘Course in Concrete Precast Rectification’.

    On completion of the 22497 VIC Course in Concrete Precast Rectification, participants will have the skills and knowledge to:

    • identify hazards and associated risks when working in a concrete precast rectification role
    • assess and determine appropriate patching and repair methods and material requirements
    • plan and safely prepare for concrete precast patch and repair tasks
    • make accurate calculations, measurements and judgements for product mixing and material consistency
    • employ appropriate curing techniques for cement, grout and epoxy materials
    • use a range of application and finishing techniques to various surface types
    • modify work processes/repair methods, according to changing circumstances.

    The re-accredited pre-apprenticeship course will continue to provide young people with the opportunity to gain a strong skill and knowledge base related to their selected trade sector.

    Research during the re-accreditation process indicates that a pre-apprenticeship helps students decide if they are suited to a trade career.

    It teaches students skills and knowledge, and boosts student's literacy, numeracy and general employability. The learning outcomes include:

    • workplace safety and site induction
    • determining opportunities and pathways, and applying for work in the construction industry

    The Certificate II in Plumbing (Pre-apprenticeship) will prepare graduates with the skills and knowledge for entry into an apprenticeship (Certificate III in Plumbing) in one of the various sectors of the plumbing industry.

    This qualification has a range of units that introduce the learner to basic plumbing skills and knowledge including:

    • working safely as part of a team
    • measuring and calculating
    • using basic industry terminology to communicate effectively
    • reading plans and specifications
    • selecting and using plumbing tools, equipment and materials
    • producing simple technical drawings
    • using basic welding equipment
    • using plumbing pipes, fittings and fixtures to simulate plumbing installations.

    This qualification is not linked to any occupational regulatory outcome.

    This course will prepare graduates with the skills and knowledge for entry into an apprenticeship (Certificate III) within the joinery/shop-fitting/stair building industries.

    The course will prepare graduates with the basic skills and knowledge to undertake apprenticeship training within the signage and graphics industry.

    To become a fully qualified sign writer, participants then undertake an apprenticeship leading to a Certificate III in Signage qualification.

    The skills and knowledge described in the Certificate III in Prefabrication Installation reflects the role of onsite installers and/or assemblers who install prefabricated or modular building elements on a construction site in a team and time constrained environment.

    While Justice graduates are not qualified to conduct therapeutic counselling, they may be called upon to recognise and respond to immediate and daily psychological needs of offenders through appropriate referral, in conjunction with managing referral and longer-term treatment options.

    This post-trade course provides the knowledge and skills required to service heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and includes the essential safety measures and control systems.

    The course also covers the application of relevant codes of practice and standards in the inspection and testing of HVAC systems and includes smoke and fire control features of air handling systems, optimising indoor air quality and enhancing energy efficiency.

    This pre-vocational course is primarily for school leavers and other new entrants wishing to prepare themselves to gain a traineeship, apprenticeship or other employment in the electrotechnology industry.

    The course provides an overview of the industry, employment opportunities and the training pathways available.

    It includes training in the basic fundamentals of:

    • electrical
    • telecommunication
    • refrigeration
    • air conditioning systems.

    There is workshop experience in:

    • fabrication and assembly techniques
    • wiring

    This course is aimed at licensed electrical trades people and professional electrical engineers to provide them with the knowledge and skills required to inspect and assess a variety of electrical installations for compliance with the regulator’s requirements.

    This course is not intended to prepare individuals to undertake licensed electrical installation work.

    It must be noted that ESV requires direct application by individuals for the different classes of electrical inspection licenses, specifies additional mentoring work and ESV assessment requirements before the licence may be granted.

    Course purpose

    The 22598VIC Diploma of Theatre Arts describes the skills and knowledge and outcomes required for multi-skilled theatre workers who work as performers and production team members in a variety of smaller performance settings and environments.

    These individuals develop concepts in production through to performing for audiences and working with the technical aspects of productions, including sets, lighting, and audio.

    They also apply generic business and entrepreneurial skills to support the operations and production of small companies and community theatre, festivals, events, and ceremonies.

    The Course in Plan Prescribed Burning is intended for individuals who require the technical skills to plan for prescribed burning for land management purposes.

    Graduates of this course may find work in an agency or enterprise that uses prescribed burning as a land management technique, usually to manage fuel loads to reduce the risk of wildfire, but also as a tool for regeneration of natural areas for ecological or cultural purposes.

    Course purpose

    The Course in Initial EAL is a new course for pre-literate students arriving from conflict zones and refugee camps who have experienced different levels of trauma.

    While this is a diverse group, many arrive in Australia with severely interrupted education and little or no previous education or learning experiences.

    These pre arrival experiences influence their ability to settle in Australia and apply the skills required to learn a new language.

    These learners need to develop an identity as a learner and establish learning routines. They need to develop basic decoding and encoding skills and handwriting skills such as copying and hand-eye coordination.

    The course outcomes may also be applicable to other law enforcement agencies and / or jurisdictions.

    This course supports successful transition into an undergraduate initial teacher education qualification for those from diverse backgrounds and life stages who wish to pursue a career in early childhood/primary or secondary school teaching without compromising the rigour of their preparation as teachers.
