Samsung tablet screen goes black when tilted

Chosen Solution

Does it ever quit while using it? It sounds like it wont wake from sleep mode . When this happens there are two possible solutions that I know of. One is to hold the power button down continuously until the tablet shuts down and reboots . This can take a minute or more. The second it to open the tablet and disconnect the battery then reconnect the battery after a minute or so then reassemble and reboot . There is a troubleshooting guild here on ifixit that may help in the future , common problems and there fixes

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Troubleshooting

Hope this helps

I had this problem on my Galaxy Tab S2. I held down the on/off button and simultaneously held down both sides of the volume control button. After about 10 seconds the screen came back on in re-boot mode.45ong

Guys, probably its the magnate inside your cover.

I have noticed it happen when i fold the cover to the back .

I removed them using a shap knife and the problem disappeared.

I've got this same, hear volume up and down but black screen. I'm opened tablet and check the tape for LCD. Tape has two connection. One is on main board , I'm open up the connector, remove tape and put it back. Still black screen. Then I removed battery. Lift gently plastic on both sides of another end of tape, then used bend copper wire to open connector, slide tape out and back in, close connector. Plug battery back on and press power on, and screen back to life.

Opening back cover should not be an option to fix this ! Samsung should fix it for free or send replacement

My screen went blank twice on two occasions and both times I've removed the screen tape connection and battery. Remove battery first didn't work. It would appear on both occasions the tab had been dropped or banged and the battery seams to pull the screen tape from the connector because I could see the line to which the tape position should be and it wasn't true to the connector. P.s used finger nails to gently remove back cover.

My new 10.1 tablet was doing the same, mostly when I turned the tablet sideways .. BUT it was only doing it when the tablet was in my leather cover, it works fine without the cover and the black screen problem has gone . Please remove your cover if you have one and see it it solves the problem for you too .

I have similar experience: it started a few months ago on my Tab A6 (a.k.a 10.1 2016) when a leather cover was mounted with intermittent display black-outs. I removed the cover and the problem went away. For a few months.

Now the screen is black and there's nothing I can do to get it working. The tablet is alive ... it makes healthy sound when I plug the charger. It also behaves right when plugged to a computer with USB cable (the screen is still black though).

As it still under warranty, it's going back for a repair.

I had the exact same situation with my sons tablet.. Nothing fixed the problem EXCEPT holding down all three of the side buttons (power, volume) after about 10 second it restarts.

Having this problem screen blackouts for @15 seconds then comes on but looks like night display you see on Google maps etc after restart it's back to normal till the next time. It also had started giving me error messages these 2 are the most frequent ones"Google has stopped working" "Google maps has stopped working" these errors come up sometimes 20 times in a row and at anytime even if I'm just doing offline stuff and I figured uninstall maps but didn't fix anything anyone have any ideas this tablet is a Samsung Galaxy tab 4 mini 7" model SM-T330NU android version 5.1.1 so if anyone can help who has had the problem or knows the fix please let me know I don't want the possible scenarios or the try this to see if it works I have done 100 different what it's already and really dont want to try anymore I'm not trying to be snooty or rude just really fed up with this BS and Samsung techs have made it worse by not being any help what so ever Thank you in advance for even just taking your time to read my sob story lol

I made sure power was off and use the internal magnets themselves against something magnetic moved them up and down and then tried powering on fixed problem where other suggestions did not

I am on my 4th Samsung 10.1" SM-T580. All have had the same problem of going black. Sometimes when I have it in the case but it has also happened out of the case. I live in Canada but purchased it at Sams Club on a trip back through the US. I returned the first 3 but now I'd like a fix. When it goes black I can tip it in several ways it eventually comes back on. This is a pain. The customer support says they've not heard of this problem. My husband has a Samsung SM-T350 and has never had this problem. I brought it to my local Samsung support store but they are unable to send it for repair because it is a US modle! I'd like a permanant fix that doesn't include taking it apart.

Our son's Tab A 10.1 (2016 ed) went black screen on us after a short fall: I could track its position with Device Manager, it made sounds when triggered, but otherwise nothing showed on screen. No variant of rebooting fixed the problem.

It took me a few tries, but I managed to

A) Turn it off (Vol- and Power pressed while plugged in) and got no fix in Device Manager. Great, at least it's off before rummaging around inside it.

B) Get the cover off following ifixit instructions (though it was tighter than implied, and actually took me the best part of an hour, for fear of breaking the screen). Samsung Galaxy Tab A Battery Replacement

C) Disconnect and reconnect the battery and the two screen connectors (one of them at both ends) using https://youtu.be/1mFwNHSeObE

D) Turn it on, and the screen was working again. One of the ZIF connectors must have been shaken loose, even though the tablet has a thick foam protector.

As for my Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition, I think I've found the culprit. I had the same issue where the screen went black but removing the back reattaching the screen cable fixed it temporarily.

What I did to fix was go to "Lock screen" setting and set the "Lock automatically" to "immediately".

Ever since I have done it, the issue has gone. It seems there's a software issue but god only knows.

I hope this solution works for others too.

Hold power button, down arrow and home all at once. Give it up to 10 seconds. It will restart and screen comes back.

One of the solutions offered above worked for me. I held down the off/on/wake up switch and held the volume up and down both. It did turn back on the screen. The tablet was on before this because I was getting email notifications and the camera button would annunciate. This began when I would leave it in the bed when I slept. I know I didn’t roll over on it but it must affect in is some way. I knew I was being careless. Thanks for the help!
