Who are you and what are you doing here story

In “Who Are You and What Are You Doing Here?”, Mark Edmundson suggests that the typical college experience may not be providing the best education for the student. However, Edmundson reasons, that if the student is willing to take a stand against the flow of college students, professors, and administrative staff that treat their college class time as a side job the student will be able to receive a true education worth the thousands and thousands of dollars they paid. The graduates will have a knowledge of what skills they possess and be confident in the type of career they want to have which will lead to better mental and physical life down the road.
The first obstacle that stops college students from obtaining a true education at college is all of their classmates, instructors, and even the admission staff who are perpetually stuck in

This not only put regrets into the student’s head, but it also distracts the students from the teacher’s lecture. The teacher, although the can see and hear the students that are misbehaving, will most likely not mention anything to the students. Following the teacher’s lead most student slack off and decide to take advantage of the lenient professor and begin to cheat on test, pay no attention during the lecture, and turn in work late. The author explains that the professors are simply too afraid of the students causing problems for the professor with the higher ups therefore the professors choose to devote their talents into other areas like research. Finally the student will find no help from the admission staff, Edmundson reports that the admission staff is mostly focuses on the reputation of the university which is a picture of the alumni of the university as a result the staff also has a fear of

Who are you and what are you doing here story

There once was a rabbi who roamed the countryside meditating on scripture. From morning to night he would walk aimlessly through the wilderness inquiring of the Lord. As he walked he would tap his finger on his forehead as if to pound the truth direclty into his mind.

One morning he set off into the wilderness pondering the nature of God’s holiness. Off he went into the glare of the sunrise, tapping his forehead as he went.

He wandered and wondered. Where his feet landed is where he went, without a care, without a worry.

At near dusk, with his feet dusty and swollen, the silence and solitude was shattered with a loud voice that rang out to him.

“Stop! Right there!”

The rabbi looked up, completely unaware of his surroundings. Before him stood the high wall of a Roman fortification. Perched at the top of the wall was a Roman guard who was both alarmed and upset at the sight of this roaming rabbi.

“Hello,“ responded the rabbi.

“Who are you and what are you doing here?” commanded the Roman guard.

The rabbi smiled up at him and responded with a question of his own, “How much do they pay you to ask questions like that?”

“5 denarii a day,” declared the guard, with pride.

Still smiling the rabbi said, “I will pay you double that to come to my house and ask me those same questions every morning.”

Who are you and what are you doing here?

We should be asking ourselves that very question every day. The answer you give will dictate whether or not you understand your identity and what directs your life.

If your identity and direction is found in yourself then your answers, just like your feelings, circumstances, and situations, will change every day. If your identity and direction is found in the living, breathing, life-giving good news of Jesus Christ then your answer will never change.

You are new creation with the compelling nature of God himself (2 Cor 5:17), and you whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, you were created to bring Him glory (1 Cor 10:31).

Who are you and what are you doing here?

Rhetoric and Composition A1: Summary and Analysis Final Draft

In Mark Edmundson’s article Who Are You and What Are You Doing Here, published in the Oxford American on August 22, 2011, he talks about his college experience and what others need to do in college to be successful. Getting an education is hard because there are too many distractions, but find something you enjoy doing or else you’ll be bored and work hard to become that. There are a lot of paths to choose from in life and going to college is one of the best to choose. Edmundson must also agree with this since he is pushing kids to try harder in school. However, Edmundson points out some very key points as to what students need to do.

There are not strict rules in most

The whole point of college is to get a degree and then go into the job market and be successful. How are kids supposed to get good grades when they don’t even care and just want to have fun? That’s why Edmundson stresses the fact that college really isn’t what it should be. There should be stricter regulations on getting good teachers forcing kids to learn. Students can still have fun and enjoy themselves but they also need to focus on school. After all where go to college to pay thousands of dollars and waste it away by doing bad academically. Student need to do what they love. Find something that they will want to study or risk never being successful because they’ll be bored with their job. College has a huge variety of programs that can be studied so chances are there is one out there for everyone. If students find something they love to do then college really won’t be too difficult and they will like their job afterwards. “Education is about finding out what form of work for you is closest to being play” (Edmundson), jobs should be something enjoyable, almost like having fun doing a hobby. People need to do what they love so they won’t be bored or held back by their lack of enthusiasm and excel to and move up in the workplace being more and more successful.

Obviously success is usually defined by how much money you have. In this day in age if you don’t have money you’re a failure; so go get
