One of the more interesting quarterback battles of the preseason is set to get underway on Saturday when the Cowboys travel to Denver to take on the Broncos.

At least, if starters were slated to play. Dallas coach Mike McCarthy has said it's "unlikely" Dak Prescott plays in either of the first two preseason games. The same is likely true for most of the first-team offense, including running back Ezekiel Elliott and receiver CeeDee Lamb and a handful of defensive players.

What about Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson, who will see his first action in Denver following a trade by Seattle? Nathaniel Hackett hasn't revealed his plans, saying, "every player is a little bit different, every situation is a little bit different."

So, it remains to be seen whether Wilson or any starter will see playing time — and, if so, to what extent.

Former Seahawks All-Pro on why team has a tall task ahead this season

Linebacker Chad Brown spent eight season playing for the Seahawks and brings his knowledge of the organization to Sports Seriously to preview the team's outlook for 2022.

The Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers have been holding joint practices all week as they prepare for their preseason game Saturday.

Both teams had their openers last Saturday and both lost their respective games, though Dallas might have more reason to be concerned. The team led the NFL in penalties in 2021 and got out to a rough start this year, committing 17 that were accepted in a 17-7 loss to the Denver Broncos. After the game, coach Mike McCarthy said it was "clearly way too much."

McCarthy said he expects the majority of the team's starters to get rest Saturday. Chargers coach Brandon Staley had said he will have a similar plan, after he opted to give the team's first-stringers plenty of reps in the joint practices.

One quirk about this matchup: the Cowboys have lost four consecutive preseason games against the Chargers, with the last Dallas victory coming in 2010.
