Sinhala speaking community who followed Buddhism took many majoritarian measures to establish supremacy over Srilankan Tamils :- 1. They declared Sinhala as an official language . 2. They tried to promote their religion (ie,Buddhism). 3. In order to gain control over Tamil speakers they changed constitution and made new constitution in their own favour and pleasure. 4. This resulted in that ,Tamilian speakers felt that their culture was not given importance,so they felt very embarrassed.

The series of majoritarian measures adopted by the democratically elected government were as follows: (i) In 1956, an act was passed to recognise Sinhala as the official language thus disregarding Tamil. (ii) The government followed preferential policies that favoured Sinhala applicants for university positions and government jobs.

(iii) A new Constitution stipulated that the state shall protect and foster Buddhism.
