NFL on Amazon Prime Video pros and cons
Is Amazon Prime Video worth it for NFL fans?
Amazon Prime ($14.99 a month) is an enticing service with its free two-day shipping and extensive Prime Video streaming library. Adding 15 Thursday Night Football games into the mix makes it a must-have for football fans who want access to the most NFL games. As the 2022 NFL schedule shows, several crucial matchups are on Thursday Night Football, and each game comes equipped with Amazon’s X-Ray and Next Gen Stats functions. These interactive features allow you to view real-time analytics alongside the game. But you’ll need an Amazon device like an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K or Amazon Fire TV Cube for the most optimized experience.
Free ways to watch Thursday Night Football
If you only want to see your favorite team play on Thursday Night Football, you might not need an Amazon membership. TNF games will still air locally in the broadcast regions of the two teams playing. Plus, you can catch alternate broadcasts for free on Twitch if you don’t live in the region of your favorite team. You could even sign up for an Amazon Prime 30-day free trial, catch the game you want to see, and cancel your subscription. There’s no shame in that.
2022 Thursday Night Football schedule
Below is a list of every Thursday Night Football game streaming live on Amazon Prime Video during the 2022 NFL season. Missing from the table are Thursday night games from weeks 1 and 17, which will air on NBC at 8:15 p.m. eastern.
The Tennessee Titans are the only team to play in multiple Thursday Night Football games this season. But the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, and New York Giants feature in none of the 2022 TNF matchups.
NFL content on Amazon Prime Video
NFL content on Amazon Prime Video is pretty scarce at the moment. But this should change once the 2022 NFL season revs up, as the streaming service will collaborate with the league to produce content around Thursday Night Football. The NFL has its own Prime Video storefront where you can view the service’s exclusive games and content. Accessing the storefront can be confusing because Prime Video is both a streaming service and a digital video store. But you can reach this content by scrolling down the Prime Video home page to the Category row and selecting Sports. The Amazon Prime Video live sports storefront as seen on a Google Chrome web browser.
Besides its 15 regular season games, Prime Video will also broadcast at least one NFL preseason game each year. The streaming service also hosts several on-demand movies and series centered around football worth checking out—including the All or Nothing docuseries.
Other options for watching NFL games
The NFL is everywhere on TV these days—meaning you’ll need a comprehensive TV plan to watch the most football games this season. Our How to Watch NFL Games page outlines this in greater detail. DIRECTV is the best overall provider for watching the NFL. Not only does it carry every NFL channel, but it also holds the exclusive rights to NFL SUNDAY TICKET. Of course, only the most diehard NFL fans will want to go that route because the satellite TV provider is pricey and requires a two-year contract.
The easiest way to watch NFL games is by connecting an over-the-air (OTA) HD antenna to your TV. A combination of locally and nationally televised games are accessible with an antenna, and a good one costs only between $20 and $60. We recommend entering your zip code on the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Reception Map Tool to verify which channels are within range of your home.

Thursday Night Football has made the jump entirely to Amazon Prime Video. Now, you’ll need an Amazon Prime ($14.99 a month) or a standalone Prime Video ($8.99 a month) subscription to watch every Thursday Night Football game. Signing up for a streaming service to watch only 15 NFL games is less than ideal. But Prime Video has an immense library of movies and shows to keep you entertained when games aren’t on. That’s a lot of value for a low monthly cost—especially if you’re already an Amazon Prime member soaking up its fast and free delivery benefits.
