There are any number of vectors where you might be encountering issues with comments on Facebook.

Be sure you’re looking up the right terms.

Posts, links, sharing, and messages are all sent through different systems on Facebook.

What’s keeping you from posting or commenting in a certain way or on a specific page may not affect other posting/commenting sectors.

Potential Reasons Your Comments Aren’t Getting Through

1. Webpage Issues

The following list will note a number of restrictions and settings that can interfere with your Facebook comments.

2. Facebook Jail

One of Facebook’s lesser-known but more potent features is the “Facebook Jail”—a kind of urban legend term for accounts that have had their access limited on the platform due to violating the terms of service through poor behavior (e.g., spamming content).

Users experiencing these limitations will usually be notified by Facebook to indicate that certain functionalities (like commenting) have been disabled temporarily.

However, these individuals are not directly told they have been put on a general restricted status.

They’ll only encounter discrepancies when trying to use the disabled features.

A notification might say something akin to, “You may have used Facebook in a way that our systems consider unusual. You can post again in X hours.”

You can effectively know you’ve been restricted if:

3. Privacy Settings

Users, groups, and pages can moderate their primary timelines with a range of privacy restrictions.

These restrictions can dictate who can see certain posts, who can make comments on your posts, who can share content from the page, and so on.

Facebook allows users to adjust post interaction settings to things like, “Only Me,” “Friends,” “Friends except…,” “Specific Friends,” “Acquaintances,” and “Custom.”

4. Timeline Review Settings

Facebook allows users to set specific restrictions on what makes it onto their timeline.

In these cases, you will be able to see the account/page and its timeline but will not be able to comment on it directly.

6. Potentially Blocked Or Unfriended

The good news is that these kinds of problems are generally more “fixable” than the settings-related circumstances noted above.

1. Refresh Your Facebook Webpage

This is probably the most common solution for general problems related to interfacing with Facebook in a web browser.

Facebook, in particular, uses a ton of widgets (webpage plug-ins), micro-refreshers (to keep your page constantly updated), and graphical effects nearly everywhere on the website.

On any given page, you might have your contact list updated with newly online or offline friends, clips of others’ stories playing in their preview slots near the top of the screen, videos auto-playing on your main feed, and a dozen other background processes running.

All of these things use up a lot of bandwidth and can contribute to hiccups in the way the page loads.

If your Facebook comments aren’t working, your page might just be locked up by other modules trying to load.

To fix this, simply refresh the browser using its refresh or “Reload this Page” icon—usually located near the URL bar at the top of the browser.

2. Sign Out And Back In
