Decided to reread Vento Aureo a few days ago out of boredom in order to re-evaluate it since I considered it the weakest part of the series but unfortunately, it still is in my eyes even after rereading it. A few of my gripes with the part is that:1. Giorno as a protagonist didn't exactly stand out to me. This is probably because most of the other protagonists had a quirk/flaw or two that made them memorable such as Joseph's smooth and sneaky personality, Jotaro's stoic "I'm cooler than thou" attitude, Josuke's thing with his hair and his devious streak (which he most likely inherited from his father) and Jolyne's unfeminine brashness which is what made her one of my favorite female protagonists in anime/manga in general.Giorno however, while he wasn't a bad character per say, he was well-rounded, maybe a bit too well-rounded. Was it because the spotlight was perhaps, evenly shared with the supporting cast? Which I'll come back to later.2. Diavolo as an antagonist. Just as Giorno didn't exactly wow me like the other JoJos, the same extends to Diavolo as well, however Diavolo was more unimpressive as the main antagonist than Giorno a protagonist. What kind of turned me off about him was his motives. When Bucciarati and co. finally manage to bring Trish to Diavolo, Diavolo makes a heel turn and attempts to kill her, all so that no link to him exists...... then why did he have a kid in the first place if he was so hell bent on not having anybody find out who he is? And why is he so paranoid about having his identity discovered in the first place? I'm not sure if it's because I simply skimmed through the chapters or it's because of the bare bones translations that Part 5 is still stuck with but his motives for a JoJo antagonist who isn't named DIO was not as clear to me as say Kira's.3. Araki's obvious half assed attempt to link Vento Aureo with the other parts in order to make it seem more significant. Apparently, before Stardust Crusaders started, Diavolo, after forming Passione, somehow ended up in Egypt for some weird reason, somehow found 6 arrows and he sold 5 to Enya while keeping one for himself. This would make Diavolo indirectly responsible for the events of Stardust Crusaders, Diamond is Not Unbreakable and Stone Ocean to come! Oh and we don't learn this until near the end of the part by an older and crippled Polnareff! Really Araki? There's more that I could talk about, like the whole Silver Chariot Requiem nonsense where everybody switches bodies near the end ugh. It's not all bad though, coming back to the supporting cast, if there's one "saving grace" about this part, it's that they all had their moment to shine. They were all likable, had interesting back stories (I liked Bucciarati's and Abbachio's the most). However, it seemed it came at the cost of Giorno not really becoming an impressive protagonist since he just seemed to be there to back everybody up with his Stand's broken ability and it would've been nice if Araki somehow tied everybody's histories with the story but that's just me.Vento Aureo was Araki's chance to do something new since it was in a new setting, one rich in style and culture (Italy), had an interesting premise (Mafiosos with Stands), the protagonist had an interesting backstory (being DIO's son with Joestar blood), etc. It was basically a part full of promise and promise but it just seems that Araki kind of dropped the ball on this one which ended up having Vento Aureo feel like a weaker Stardust Crusaders to me.

Well that's just me, I'm interested in reading what you guys have to say about this.

For being the GangStar he really didn't get much screen time to actually do much. I suspect this might have been why his stand was so broken since it didn't have as much time to have it's abilities refined/defined. He needed more fights.

I still like Giornos plan on the way to the boss though "What if we steal ALL the cars?"

Yeah I kinda find Gio very bland as a character because there wasn't much about him and he was like near to a perfect character. His backstory at the start was good but they didn't develop his character well when compared to the others. Even Bruno was like one of the best characters in part 5 and Gio was like the worst as he was kinda emotionless nearly.I thought part 5 would be amazing due to GER which was like OP OP but the story wasn't so great. Also about a mafia boss of a mafia where no one has ever seen the boss. Like who does that, it sounds too insane even bizarre. :L

Yeah Gio had the least character development and emotions when compared to the other Jojos and it got annoying when everyone thought in there head "this guy can become a great leader".

It was basically a better utility and healer stand than crazy diamond but was far weaker in damage until GER! GER! :LMan his stand even revived someone from the dead which Crazy Diamond can't do and that is why it was OP.Also he has tons of abilities, mainly utility ones so his ability was refined.

The Gangstar made me laugh and also when I read why not steal all the cars. It just sounds so hilarious.

I'm still stuck with Part 5 being 2nd worst part in my head because part 3 was boring to me. Gio is slightly more interesting to me than Jotaro, and like TC said, the saving grace was the rest of the cast in part 5 having cool fights.

I always figured Diavolo to be a reference to the mythical Keyser Söze from The Usual Suspects. Without getting into spoiler territory, Söze is a legend in the crime world, often referred to as the devil himself (Diavolo). He's supposedly a Turkish crime lord who killed his own wife and child once he realized they could be used to gain leverage against him, and after doing so, he murdered everyone who had ever seen his face or had any reliable information on him. After this, he always worked through proxies of proxies of proxies, so the legend went that you might work under him without ever knowing that your boss was actually the Keyser Söze. He's infinitely intelligent, able to concoct ridiculously elaborate schemes (almost as though he could see into the future), and the mere mention of him strikes fear into hearts of even the coldest killers. His deletion of his identity is so thorough that it isn't even clear that he actually exists. There are a couple other striking similarities, but it'd require getting into spoiler territory.I was always a huge fan of The Usual Suspects, so the moment I started picking up a Söze vibe from "The Boss" (Diavolo), I probably projected Söze's qualities onto him. Thus, he's one of my favorite villains.

Oh, and there's a sequence where a character is telling a story about Söze, and the fantasy version of him depicted is an elegant, long-haired man. Also, Diavolo's disguise outfit looks like Söze's disguise outfit (though it's definitely a disguise seen in other media).

It does have some kick ass fights though, upon reread. It's like a better, smarter Part 3 to me, as they both have the big travel aspect.

Baby Face, for example, used to be my least favorite fight in the series, now it's a really cool one.

indeed, and not to mention that, befor part 6,he was the only known son of dio..imagine how much material for a good story there would be there...Giorno trying to find its origin, jotaro(or other main characters) visiting him to tell him the truth, and Giorno trying to struggle with the fact that his father was a villain, but he's actually a good guy..but nope, all of this is thrown out of the window, only because he wanted to be a gangstar..-_-

Part 5 was sort of lacklustre compared to the others.Silver Chariot Requiem was god damn poorly implemented and confusingGold Experience Requiem is the most OP thing in the JoJo universeThe had to write out Fugo because he was too OPDiavolo wasn't really a stand out villain. It's never explained WHY he wants no one to know his identity. And you're right, why even have a ki- well.....he wouldn't have known I guess. His reason for being evil are kind of poor thoughGiorno had A LOT of potential, considering the whole 'son of Dio' deal but whateverThe final fight was 'whoever gets the arrow first wins'.Though yeah, if you look at it, Diavolo indirectly caused the events of Part 3, 4 and 6.Though it's because of Dio that parts 1-3, 5 and 6 happened. But anyway, enough of my mini rant.Part 5 wasn't as good as the rest....but it was still nice. But yeah, a lot of missed potential. However it's not like Part 6's ending...

both a giant WTF, as Pucci pretty much killed every Joestar (he won but he lost, you could say) and the end is completely unnecessary considering D4C with the alternate reality things

Don't play just to win, play for the fun of it.

1) Agreed. Bruno was the protagonist over Giorno to me.2). He didn't decide to become a nonperson until after he formed passione, which would be after trish was born. meaning he has to to back and erase his past. the real question is why he told everyone trish was his daughter. he wants his identity a secret because that's a really good edge to have as head of a criminal empire.3) from what I understand, he found the arrows first, and after using one on himself, sold the rest to kickstart his Passione mafia with the funds.

Plot holes aside, I actually like part 5 the most
