Why does Facebook say Im logged in somewhere Im not?

Home How To Has someone else logged into your Facebook account? Here is how to find out instantly and recover it too

Find out instantly if someone else has hacked into your Facebook account illegally and then take action to recover it and permanently block these unauthorized users from reading your messages.

The Internet can be a very dangerous place. One of the worst fears of Facebook users is about someone else logging into or hacking their accounts. On the web, there are malicious users and groups targeting individuals in order to gain access to personal information, hold data to ransom and disrupt important communications. The average user can be affected by account fraud, phishing, and account hacking. Users don't need to be targeted by hackers alone, they can be at risk from a former partner, a family member, a former friend or anyone else who has managed to get a hold of their Facebook account password.

However, thanks to modern technology, many social media networks and online services now show users if their account has been logged into by someone else. So, if you suspect someone has managed to gain unauthorised access to your Facebook account, you can follow these steps to recover it from them and then block them out permanently.

Check your devices for unrecognised Facebook logins

To find out if someone else has logged into your Facebook account without your knowledge, all you have to do is log in by using your desktop browser or using the app on your smartphone. Go to the Settings section and tap or click on the “Security and Logins” option and look for the “Where you're logged in” section on the page. You can now see a list of devices where you are currently logged in using your Facebook username and password. It also shows details about where the account was accessed from, as well as the device that was used. You can log out individual devices if you do not recognise some of the entries. If you only use Facebook on a couple of devices, you can simply use the “Log out of all sessions” and sign in again on your devices.

How to stop anyone else from signing into your Facebook account

Turning on two-factor authentication is one of the best ways to protect your Facebook account. You can enable it by going to Security and login settings and scroll down to “Use two-factor authentication” then click on “Edit”. You can then choose to receive SMS codes on your phone number, log in using a 3rd party app like Authy or Google Authenticator, or use a security key on your account for extra security. Once you turn on two-factor authentication, anyone who tries to log in to your account will need not just your password but also your two-factor authentication code to log in to your account.

no this is from my computer, why do you think I posted to the forums for

  3.    New 11 Aug 2013 #4

I think the question was: Are you ALSO logged into facebook using a mobile device, like a phone, or a 3G tablet? If you had followed the link provided, I think you'd have understood that.

No need to get all snarky.

I think you came to the forum because you didn't ask Facebook about a Facebook issue. Am I right?

I'm not logged on from any mobile devices or anything, I cleared all my activity and logged myself back in through Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, the 2 browsers installed on my laptop and still no luck with it

Okay...does it show that you're currently logged in at multiple places, or that you have logged in from those places in the last month? It won't matter which browsers you use, so don't worry about which one you're currently using.

Sorry, but I don't use "Farcebook", so I'm just imagining the scenario.

And, BTW, GO GOOGLE+. (Heh.... shameful plug.)

    ...does not what?

If it does not show you logged in CURRENTLY from those locations, then any time you may have accessed FB from a phone or 3G Tablet might have created those entries. (I say 3G tablet, because they use the cell network to log in, whereas a wifi tablet would only show up at your current location and IP address.)

If it only shows your CURRENT logins, then there's a good possibility that someone else is using your FB sign-in.

somebody else using my facebook account is not good and I just changed my password yesterday and it is still showing me logged in from the strange location, what should I do about it

Still sounds like you have been hijacked
Can you try logging in on another computer ? Not from home
See where it shows you are from, if it still says NJ then change the password again and log out immediately afterwards. Close the browser, clear the browsers cache, then log back in

If you log in this outside computer and you do not see NJ it seems your computer has spyware in it, then you need to download Malwarebytes at Malwarebytes.org, install it and do a full scan and see what it finds

Can I find out who tried to access my Facebook account?

Let's quickly summarize what we have learned: You can check if someone else is accessing your account by going to Settings and Privacy > Settings > Security and login > Where you're logged in.

Why is my login activity wrong location?

If Location is Wrong If you see a location outside your country or device which you never used to login then your account may be compromised. But these is not always true. If you have used any VPN service then the location may be changed to some other region based on the server your VPN connected to.
