Who plays the new Trinity in Matrix?

The Matrix Resurrections is set to reunite Trinity and Neo, though since both died by the end of The Matrix Revolutions, that reunion and the how and why is being kept under wraps at the moment.

Carrie-Anne Moss, who plays Trinity, has opened up about the upcoming fourth installment, revealing she was "blown away" by how the characters are brought together again.

Talking to The Guardian, Moss said when she read the script, it was not something she could have imagined.

She said: "When myself, Lana [Wachowski], Keanu [Reeves], and a few others sat together to read it for the first time, I was thinking: 'What is this going to be like? How is she going to do this?' It's something that I never imagined, and I was really blown away."

Previously, Neo actor Reeves, revealed the characters' reunion is "emotional" in a behind-the-scenes featurette.

"For us it was so emotional, it was almost like 'How do we not cry?'" he recalled. "The ambition of the story, the love story, the quest of it… it's big."

Reeves also hinted at the storyline, teasing: "Neo's getting a second chance at his life, and he's getting a second chance with the person he says, 'The only person I've ever loved'."

He went on to describe the union between Neo and Trinity as "an experience beyond yourself".

The star previously called Resurrections a "love story" during an interview last year, explaining on The One Show at the time: "[Director Lana Wachowski] has written a beautiful script that is a love story.

"It's inspiring. It's another version of a kind of, call to wake up. It entertains... It has some great action. All will be revealed."

The Matrix 4 is scheduled for release on December 22, 2021 in cinemas and on HBO Max in the US.

Reviving a franchise is always a gamble, but when it's almost 20 years after the last movie and we're talking about a saga as beloved as The Matrix, the stakes are even higher.

While The Matrix Resurrections has managed to bring back some original cast members alongside director Lana Wachowski, fans probably won't be convinced about the quality of this sequel until they get a chance to see it with their own eyes in cinemas later this year.

But according to cast member Jessica Henwick – who joins as a new character named Bugs – we have nothing to fear, especially when it comes to Carrie-Anne Moss' return as Trinity (who she has played since the first instalment in 1999 and all through Reloaded and Revolutions).

"I'm excited for fans to get to see Keanu. We love him. We love him as Neo. He's amazing. He is the beating heart of the film and he can do no wrong. So, I think fans are really gonna enjoy that," said Henwick in a recent interview with Collider.

"Carrie-Anne has a really interesting role in this film and I think a lot of people are gonna be happy with her work. That's really what I'm excited to see," she continued.

Not much is known about the plot of Resurrections or of Henwick's character. But it's The Matrix so it's gonna be pretty cryptic.

Henwick is best known for appearing in basically every major franchise in the past decade. She played Nymeria Sand in Game of Thrones, Jess Testor in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Coleen Wing in Marvel's The Defenders, Luke Cage and Iron Fist as well as starring in the Blade Runner: Black Lotus TV series and Love and Monsters.

After Matrix, she will next be seen in Knives Out 2, which has wrapped filming and is currently in post-production.

Henwick and Moss have crossed paths before as the veteran Matrix actress has also entered the Marvel Universe playing Jeri Hogarth in Daredevil, Iron First, The Defenders and Jessica Jones.
