What is an organized pattern of belief and behavior?

Social institutions are organized patterns of beliefs and behaviors that are centeredon basic social needs such as learning, teaching, reinforcing, and preserving (Schaefer, 2013, p. 209). Social institutions are a major part of every society and they contain vast amounts of social interactions, which sociologists often analyze. They also have socialization, in and of itself, that sociologists study as well.  There are many types of social institutions dedicated to education, religion, family, political, and economic.  Everything that I have mentioned so far ties into the idea of social institutions and the social interaction that occurs within them. However, every sociologist has their own ideasand conflicts on how social institutions operate and how they should operate in society.

For example, I am going to use education and attack it with a sociological imagination.  Education is very important in every society because in order to grow as a whole, individuals need to enhance their intelligence and become better at working with one another to develop new systems.  This is similar to the theory of functionalism.  Functionalists’ view education as an organized system that has individual parts with separate roles to meet social needs. It starts with teachers because teachers go through a lot of qualified education to ultimately specialize in a certain aspect of education. Teachers then carry that knowledge to a “secondary group,” like a school, and teach what they know. When these teachers retire, quit, or even pass away, there needs to be a replacement for their position. Time comes and goes and so do people so in order to operate properly, the school must hire new and better teachers for that position. Then when these new teachers or for other instances, positions, come about they need to be informed of the social roles and how they must abide by their roles for the system to work. For education, new teachers must be aware of how teaching at that certain school works and operates, so that they know how to fit in and fill their social roles. The next step for education is to make sure all the teachers are performing their roles and that their students not only learn, but that they learn correctly. Also, the teacher should be treated fairly by higher levels of authority inside the school district. This is so that there is never disorder and things run smoothly. Functionalists would say that a key to education is that all students must have motivation to learn and all teachers must have determination to
