How to turn off location on Instagram 2022

Instagram uses a variety of information gathered from your device to shape your experience. Even though tracking such data helps us to find unexplored places nearby that we might be interested in visiting, there are times when we don't want Instagram followers to know our location.

Instagram lets you hide your location so that you can share memorable moments without worrying about accidentally revealing your address or compromising your privacy.

Here's what you need to know about how to hide your location in Instagram posts, including those you have already published...

How to Hide Your Location by Disabling Location Permissions on Instagram

The first quick way to prevent Instagram from showing your location to your followers is to turn off the location in location permissions.

Instagram notes that its default setting for location is off, but you may want to double-check these settings in case you've changed it or have given access in the past.

Depending on the type of device you have, iOS or Android, you will follow a slightly different process.

Here is a brief look at the process for each...

Disabling Location Services for Instagram on iPhone

Depending on the application, Apple allows its customers to disable location services entirely or control when an app can track your location.

Here's how you can customize iPhone location tracking:

  1. Go to your iPhone's settings.
  2. Go to the Privacy settings.
  3. Tap on the Location Services.
  4. To turn off Location Services, move the toggle to the left.
  5. In the popup, tap Turn Off.

Turning off Location Services will turn off location tracking for all apps, including useful ones such as Maps, Find My, etc. Therefore, you will need to enable it again when using these apps in the future.

Disabling Location Permissions for Instagram on Android

With an Android device, you can disable location tracking from the app permissions to prevent Instagram from posting your location.

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to your phone's settings.
  2. Go to App management > App list.
  3. From the list of apps, select Instagram
  4. Go to Permissions.
  5. If Location is in the list of Allowed permissions, tap it.
  6. Select the Deny checkbox.

Once the permission is denied, Instagram will not track or use your location while posting anything on Instagram in the future.

Removing Location From Published Posts on Instagram

Let's explore how you can remove the location from published posts on Instagram.

Disabling location permissions will not remove location data from all published posts. To do so, you must remove the location from each post individually.

Here's how to remove the location from Instagram posts on Android:

  1. Navigate to your published post in the Instagram app.
  2. Click on the three vertical dots next to your name and location.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Tap on the location right below your Instagram username.
  5. Click the cross icon (X) at the top right of the Select a Location screen.

You can remove all your locations one-by-one by following the same steps.

When it comes to removing location from Instagram posts, the process is almost the same on iPhone and Android. The only difference on the screen is that you won't see the cross symbol—you'll see a popup saying Remove Location instead.

Tap on it, and your location will be removed.

Make sure Instagram does not track your location by turning location off in the app permissions.

Remove Your Location From Instagram Posts

So now you know how you can stop Instagram from adding your location to your posts and how to remove the location information from already published posts.

However, keep in mind that if you turn off location tracking, you won't be able to add geotags to any of your posts. When you're done with your private family tour, make sure you turn on this feature.

In 2022, social media users are becoming increasingly concerned about how platforms like Facebook and Twitter use and store our data.

We often have to share personal information like emails, names, addresses, card details and locations and don’t really know who has access to it.

This week, Instagram users have grown very concerned about a new feature that shares your precise location with the app.

Thankfully, there’s a way to turn it off so the platform won’t be able to track your exact address. Read on to find out how…

Precise Location feature scares Instagram users

Many Instagram users have been taking to Twitter this week to urge others to turn off a feature called Precise Location.

When you first used Instagram, you would have had to tick a box to share your location, which you have to do with most apps.

Users were aware of this, but what they didn’t know is that Instagram has recently added a feature that shares not just your general location but the exact coordinates.

This means that your specific location is always being tracked and shared with Instagram, so the app can essentially see where you’re moving to throughout the day.

The app doesn’t give away this location information to other users, but many are concerned that hackers could get access to their location and stalk them.

When the strange setting is turned off, Instagram can only determine your approximate location rather than the exact one.

If you’re concerned, find out how to turn off the feature off below.

You’ll need to switch it off for all your apps

The creepy feature has gone viral in relation to Instagram, but it actually concerns lots of different apps that use location services.

If you don’t want any of your apps to see your exact location, you’ll need to go through each one separately on your iPhone and turn the feature off.

At the time of writing this, Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp seem to track your precise location, but TikTok, Messenger, Pinterest and Reddit do not.

If you’re worried, it’s best to go through all the apps in your settings and check that they don’t track your exact location.
